Calista Ford stood at the foot of a now empty bed. A tear fell down her cheek and she quickly wiped it away with a slender hand. Phillip was the third patient Calista had lost within a year. She remade the bed with a flick of her wand then went to check on another one of her patients. Calista was having trouble keeping her on track the past few months. Most days her mind floated off to her suspicions that a trainee named Alyssa Tucker was after her beloved boyfriend, David Tyler. All the other guys drooled over Alyssa, but she didn’t pay as much attention to them as she did David. At least that’s how Calista saw it.
Calista finished with the patient who seemed to be fine except that she needed a few healing potions. Those nasty Hippogriffs get you every time. She walked over to the nurses station and slammed some paperwork down harder than she had meant to. After apologizing to the flustered nurse, she asked for her to administer a bone healing potion to a couple of her patients. After the nurse left, Calista’s honey colored eyes swept up to the clock. It read 10:30am which was Calista’s break time. She had been working all night and didn’t get off until 3:00 that evening and even then she was still on call. Calista headed for the tea room where she always took her break.
She entered the room, looked around, nodded to those she knew, and headed for her ‘lucky’ couch. It sat over on the left side in the far corner under a window. She sat down and pulled her knees up to her chest leaning her back on the arm. She gazed out the window while wrapping her arms around her legs. She closed her eyes and thought about David. David was her best friend; her soul mate and she couldn’t bare the thought of losing him. And she would not lose him to a bimbo like Alyssa, not without a fight that is. A silent tear slide down Calista’s cheek but this time she let it be.
Calista was always dwelling on her suspicions. That was why she got along with a lot of people, but most didn’t even like her all that much. Calista has a bunch of weird little quirks like that, which made her quite unpopular at school and the butt of most jokes. In school, kids would conjure black cats in front of her and laugh as she freaked out. Calista was very superstitious about a lot of things. She is also very different. She has always been fascinated by muggle things and ideas. She even studied muggle medicine at a muggle college because she thought it would come in handy some day.
Calista opened her eyes and gazed out the window once more until the sun hurt her eyes. She reclosed them and set her chin on top of her knees. Her blonde hair escaped from behind her ears and fell into her face. And in the position, Calista drifted off to sleep.
